Wise was apparently trapped in the pipe under water for eight to 12 minutes.

BADFONTEIN – A man nearly drowned in the Crocodile River at Verlorenkloof on Tuesday.
Mr. Garry Wise (38) and a friend went kayaking on this river earlier that day. Wise’s kayak apparently got caught in an obstacle like pipe in the river.
According to local Hazmat operator and paramedic, Mr Deon Broekman of Rapid Response, Wise was apparently trapped in the pipe under water for eight to 12 minutes.
When he was eventually rescued from the water, his friend and Mr Douglas Boys of Verlorenkloof, immediately drove him to the Badfontein road where they met Broekman, Johan Harmse and Thabisa Maseko a paramedic from Netcare 911.
