Eskom has announced that the power system was extremely constrained.
“Implememting lower stages of load shedding throughout the week helps prevent severe load shedding later in the week,” it said in a statement. “This being Eskom’s maintenance season, we expect the power grid to remain constrained for the rest of the summer.”
The company calls on all South Africans to use electricity sparingly. It recommends that consumers switch off geysers, pool pumps and non-essential lights, use air conditioning systems efficiently and respond to the alerts on TV each evening.
Eskom says commercial customers such as shopping centres and office buildings can make the biggest difference by switching off non-essential lights during office hours and switching off equipment after-hours.
