Macadamia growers rewarded

The Wine Glass Boutique conference venue was roaring with excitement as the cream of the macadamia crop was announced at the much anticipated 2014 Mayo Macs Top Grower Awards recently.

MBOMBELA – The Wine Glass Boutique conference venue was roaring with excitement as the cream of the macadamia crop was announced at the much anticipated 2014 Mayo Macs Top Grower Awards recently.

Mayo Macs Macadamias is a macadamia-nut processor and serves farmers from all the growing regions of South Africa. Areas included was southern KwaZulu-Natal, northern KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga. The top growers of each region were honoured.

In addition to the awards, international trader Kees Blokland gave a presentation on the trading threats and opportunities of macadamias worldwide, giving Mayo Macs growers assurance of their investment due to risk-mitigation strategies.

Mayo Macs chief executive officer, PJ Venter also gave a presentation showing the incredible growth of Mayo Macs and importantly as the growers are shareholders, showed the benefit from being part of the full supply chain.

Then, the moment everyone was waiting for arrived. The top five Mayo Macs growers in Mpumalanga were Simon Bezuidenhout, Faan du Toit, Toffie Bleeker, Lian van Rooyen and Johan Lindeque.

Lindeque of the Mayo Estate was awarded the best grower in the area. He was also recognised as one of Mayo Macs’ top-five growers nationally. Juan Pienaar was awarded the highest single delivery payment in Mpumalanga which was R65,84 per kilogram (dry in shell).

Mayo Macs has depots and drying facilities in Levubu, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal. Processing takes place in state-of-the-art processing plants in Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.

Mayo Macs has been supplying macadamias to the highest specification to discerning clients all over the world since 1999.
