Are some who park on pavements more equal than others?

The shop owners are distressed that they received a R500 fine for stopping their vehicle in front of their own store.

The owners of a shop in Andersen Street saw red when their neighbour recently had customers pull onto the pavement in front of their shop. The cause for their distress was mainly that they had been written a R500 fine for stopping their vehicle in front of their own store the week before.

Moreover, the vehicles parked on the pavement were there to have signage stickers put on them bore the mark of the provincial traffic department. One of the officers with whom Nelspruit Post spoke said they had been instructed to go have the signage put on the cars at the establishment and it was beyond their control to tell the store owner where to work. The store owner declined to speak to the newspaper.

Mr Joseph Ngala, municipal spokesman did not comment on which existing by-laws the shop owners were written tickets for parking on the pavement.
