GAMOTODI- After winning the Baswa le Meetse (youth in water) national competition in 2014, in the poetry category, the local primary school Marota, was awarded with goodies on March 17.
The school received a media centre, 21 computers, one overhead data projector, a three-in-one printer and a cash prize of R6 000.
The prizes were donated by MTN. The media centre has connection to internet and scientific programmes. Five educators were all trained in computer lessons.
The deputy minister of water and sanitation, Pamela Tshwete, officially opened the media centre. She was accompanied by the Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM)’s executive mayor, Cllr David Magabe, Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM)’s mayor, Cllr Ralepane Mamekoa and the local chief, Kgoshi Hlabirwa Sekhukhune.
Tshwete congratulated the school on its achievement. “We are here because of the outstanding work done by the learners. We hope the media centre will help the quality of education in this school, gone are the days when learners were scared of computers. This is a dedicated school that is hungry for accolades, well done Marota.”
Principal of the school, Ms MS Mahole, described the achievement as exceptional. “We are honoured to have been donated the prizes, and it shows that hard work pays. I am positive that Marota will achieve more accolades in future, this is just the start,” she remarked.
“We will cherish the prizes given to us and take care of them, our school is not only best in extra mural activities. We also previously produced the best maths learners in Tubatse,” she said.
Mahole also thanked the local community for supporting the school from the first day when they participated in the Sekhukhune district and also on provincial level.
