Stalls take shape but the opening still not sight

More than 20 people were fired after demanding their salaries, only a few people remain working there. It's still going to take time to see every street vendor benefiting and selling without hassles. What you see is just the outside part,” a local resident said.

BURGERSFORT – It looks as though the hawkers stalls being built in town and in Praktiseer are taking shape.

When Steelburger/Lydenburg News visited on April 14, final touches were being made to the long-awaited street vendors’ markets.

Meanwhile community members highlighted it would still take some time before the stalls officially started operating. “More than 20 people were fired after demanding their salaries, only a few people remain working there. It’s still going to take time to see every street vendor benefiting and selling without hassles. What you see is just the outside part,” a local resident said.

He went on to say that the steering committee was to blame as it was responsible for the hiring and firing. “They all want to benefit, they employed their own people who installed the palisades and the ones who painted them. The contractors are not having any say at all.”

The spokesman of the Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM), Mr Thabiso Mokoena promised to send an update about the stalls to the paper. At the time of going to print, the paper did not receive any further comment from Mokoena.
