Men in custody after raping mother, girlfriend’s granddaughter

Two alleged rapists appeared in the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court after they were arrested for two seperate incidents in various areas of Acornhoek.

One of men, aged 43, reportedly broke down his mother’s bedroom door with an axe at around 01:00 on May 16. He threatend to kill the 73-year-old, then forcefully undressed and raped her.

The victim told her daughter of the incident, who reported it to the police. The man was arrested yesterday.

The other man, aged 40, reportedly raped his girlfriend’s granddaughter on May 13 in Matsikitsane Trust.

The woman found out about the incident, where the eleven-year-old told her that she felt unbearable pain in her back. The girl was apparently afraid to report the crime because the man had threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

The girl was taken to hospital by her grandmother and doctors confirmed that she had been raped.

During the investigation, police found that it was not the first time the suspect had raped the victim.

Both suspects were remanded in custody and the cases were postponed to June 2, pending a formal bail application.
