Crime increase in Nkomazi – Be alert

Since Thursday last week, several incidents of crime had been reported.

A family home in Hectorspruit was hit by armed robbers while having a braai with friends. Four armed robbers accosted the homeowners and guests, but as one of them had a firearm, managed to shoot at the armed men, who then fled across the N4. No one was harmed, but residents are warned to be various alert when entertaining outside at night. No one has been taken into custody yet.

Early on Thursday, two men entered the Pestana premises with their vehicle, a light blue double-cab Toyota Hilux. They signed in at the gate, exiting the area soon after. The security guard at the gate noticed that they had several televisions in the back of their vehicle. When he confronted them, they managed to forcibly open the gate and drove through. The vehicle was tracked all the way to the Pienaar area north of Kanyamazane, where it was unfortunately lost. The registration, DHF325MP, verified as such by multiple persons, was found to be a false number and as such untraceable.

In Malalane,on  Friday, 29 May, just after midnight,two burglars targeted a home in Park Street.  They however only managed to get into the gardener’s room, where they violently assaulted him. They escaped before the security company arrived. The gardener required hospitalisation. It is not known whether they were armed.

On Friday, strikers in Opdraend Street stoned vehicles close to the OVV factory. They were eventually brought under control by authorities on the scene. Damage caused was not quantified, but during a previous incident at the same location, it ran to tens of thousands.

Malalane Golf Course suffered thousands of rand of damage after vandals on motorbikes damaged one of the greens to the point of being unplayable. As the damage would likely cause loss of income to the golf club and also be expensive to repair, the incident was viewed in a serious light. Club Management subsequently laid a charge of malicious damage to property with the SAPS.

On  May 26,  during the afternoon, a number of men passing by Malalane primary school perimeter started pulling at the fence, swearing and shouting at the young girls and teachers on the netbal courts. The teachers called the girls out of harm’s way and the men eventually left. Their motive remains unknown. They were en route from the railway station area to the centre of town at the time.

There has been a lot of suspicious movement at night, in towns as well as around farm homes. Incidents of break-ins and attempts have taken place in broad daylight as well as at night, regardless of whether people have been around. Please take care. Communication remains key. Know who to phone, and make sure that those at home during the day know who to call in an emergency.
While stray dogs are often the cause of canine mayhem at night, this is not always the case. If all the dogs in your street are barking, CHECK.
