The baby’s mother, aged 27, had apparently left him in the care of her boyfriend, Mr Vusi Sambo, when she went grocery shopping in Hazyview.
There had allegedly been some complications with the little boy and Sambo went to ask the neighbours for assistance. They saw that the boy was not well and advised him to take the baby to the nearest clinic. He waited for the baby’s mother to return so they could go to the clinic together.
She returned about two hours later and rushed to the clinic. The baby was declared dead on arrival.
Police were summoned but found that Sambo had already left the clinic. He had not been seen since. A post-mortem investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the boy’s death.
A murder docket had been opened and police believe that Sambo could give them more insight into the events.
