A 64-year old farm manager in the Komatipoort district was assaulted, almost suffocated and had his clothes ripped off before being tied up, earlier this week. He was attacked in his house on the farm by five armed robbers.

Erick Meiring managed to untie himself, but by then the robber had fled with numerous electrical articles from the house, a generator and his vehicle.

One of the perpetrators had been accosted by the local SAPS and taken into custody. He will appear in the Barberton court. The police is still searching for the other four robbers.

When Corridor Gazette spoke to Mr Meiring, he was in good spirits and grateful for the incredible support from the community, Securicon and the Komatipoort SAPS.

Many of the articles which had been stolen were found in the nearby veld and the first suspect was already taken into custody hours after the attack.
