Two men were arrested by the Elukwatini police officials in the early hours of Monday morning.
This was after the SAPS were tipped off by concerned citizens that they were dealing in dagga in Nhlazatshe Extension 1.
According to Const Peace Mbokane, two dedicated law-enforcement members, Const Ntokozo Masuku and Const Gordon Mahlangu received the tip-off. “The officers treated the information as a top priority and responded swiftly. One of the suspects, Amos Spikilane Mbokane (42), aka Zuka, was caught by surprise when the officials stormed into his house and requested to search it. They produced a search warrant and identified themselves as the police. It was after they had searched the place that they discovered a yellow bucket containing dagga and 18 matchboxes full of the same drug,” said Peace.
The dagga was estimated at a street value of R700. Amos will appear in the local Eerstehoek Magistrate’s Court to answer on the charge levelled against him today.
Peace said on the very same day, thereafter, the officials were intent on cleaning the area of dealers. He said they pounced on Sfiso Goodman Malaza (25), also residing at Nhlazatshe Extension 1.
“Malaza was also surprised by the visit and attention given to him by the dignified blue. After his house was searched, the police found 10 boxes hidden in his bedroom and they read him his constitutional rights before arresting him. He is due to appear in the same local court today,” said Peace.
He said the dealing of dagga was a problematic issue in the Elukwatini area and the police were doing all they could to avert the negative consequences it contributed to the local youth.
“The SAPS appeal to all community members not to look away when they see perpetrators of this crime. Failing to report it is tantamount to being a criminal,” said the constable.
The Elukwatini station commander, Col Precious Mabuza, was happy about the performance of the two officials who were always a double trouble for criminals.
