Teenage girl raped in Tonga

TONGA – Police are warning young women not to be on the streets late at night.

This follows the rape of a 17-year-old girl this past Thursday.

The victim alleges that she and a friend were on their way home at around 22:00 when they came across two unknown men. One of them grabbed her, pushed her into the nearby bush and raped her.

Police are still investigating and are appealing to young women to avoid walking at night as it is dangerous and anything harmful could happen.

Tonga Police Station commander, Brig Velisiwe Mdaka, is requesting anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrator, to notify the police.
