Sports against crime awareness campaign hosted

With this campaign, we want to teach the youth that there are other ways to entertain themselves than participating in crime

BURGERSFORT – The local police station and the officials of the youth council hosted a youth-against-crime campaign last Friday at Mafemane Primary School located in Mapebatho Village. The campaign also included a soccer tournament for children of the village.

Guests who attended the event were Const Victoria Maluleka, Const Andrew Sibatana of Leboeng Police Station, Past Victor Nyaka, Capt Letebele Maepa and Mr BK Manoke, chief of Mapebatho Village.

“With this campaign, we want to teach the youth that there are other ways to entertain themselves than participating in crime. Crime does not pay. June is Youth Month and we want to get them involved in ways that can stop crime, we will teach them how to do so. Devious activities usually start with an individual and later spread to the community,” said Mr Themba Ngele, chairman of youth-against-crime council.

He also thanked Pick n Pay Steelpoort for its generous donation towards the event.

“Our theme for today is crime does not pay. We want children to report crime activities and not to participate in it. We want to inform the community to report any crime or suspicious people at their local police station. It is free of charge and your identity will not be exposed,” said Maluleka.
