LYDENBURG – A local woman has achieved the dream of putting together a passion and career together. De Jeffrauns is a school themed restaurant which is a brain child of Ms Rolene Joubert, who is a former teacher and had always dreamed of opening a restaurant with a unique taste.

The restaurant is in a red school bus. According to Joubert she taught for 20 years but decided to retire and start living her dream in the catering industry.

“I always wanted to do something which is extraordinary and when the idea of having a school themed restaurant crossed my mind I had to act because I knew it will be the first of its kind in our area,”

The bus was transported for hundreds of kilometres. “I remember when I went to Gauteng looking for a bus; I knew I will have to take it home if it means I want my dreams to come true,”

“When I found the bus it was not the way it looks now we had done so many changes on it so that it may look the way it is now. We painted it red, changed the interior and added many other things so that it may fit the vision I had in mind”

The restaurant has a menu which is has a school theme. “We wanted to create a menu which will be interesting to read and have names of meals that fall under the school theme. We also made sure that we have meals that learners can be able to afford and buy when they get a day out from school,”

The names of the meals vary from Late for school breakfast, Headmastre’s breakfast, Grade 1-Hamburger, staffroom tea and many more other names that have a school theme.

“We have a tuck shop which we take out so that when our customers come with their children they can be able to buy candy and many other things we have to offer.

We also have a gift  shop which is opened for the community to buy for their loved ones,”she said.
