Alleged diesel thieves appear in court

Two men suspected of stealing diesel were granted bail in the Masoyi Periodical Court yesterday.

Penuel Moreku (22) and Prince Zulu (28) were arrested for allegedly draining diesel from buses at the Buscor’s Masoyi depot around midnight.

The two suspects, along with four others, were spotted at the depot by security guards. When the guards approached them, they fled. Moreku and Zulu hid in one of the buses.

The guards then reported the matter to the police. Police arrived on the scene, saw the two men trying to escape and arrested them.

Inside the bus the suspects were hiding in, two 25-litre containers filled with diesel were found.

After a search of the depot and its surroundings, five containers filled with diesel and 17 empty ones were also found and confiscated.

The suspects were granted R500 bail each and the case was postponed to August 4, pending further investigation.
