Tonga pastor and co-accused in court for murder

Officials discovered the body of Mr Nkululeko Given Sibiya (21) at around 00:15 on June 30 after receiving reports that he had been brutally assaulted by a mob.

TONGA – The pastor of a local church and his young accomplice appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of murder. Mr Mduduzi Khoza (45) and Mr Mkhuliseni Ngomane (27) handed themselves over to Tonga police – one on Thursday and the other on Friday.

According to provincial police spokesman Col Leonard Hlathi, officials discovered the body of Mr Nkululeko Given Sibiya (21) at around 00:15 on June 30 after receiving reports that he had been brutally assaulted by a mob.

They found Sibiya’s lifeless body in a pool of blood with multiple wounds early the next morning. Police launched an investigation and notified the community that they were searching for suspects.

The cause for the assault is not yet known.After hearing that they were being sought, Ngomane handed himself over to police on Thursday afternoon and appeared in court that same day. Khoza followed suit on Friday morning. The suspects were released on bail of R500 each. They will reappear on August 25.
