Gang of armed robbers loots tills and safe at local supermarket

The incident took place at about 18:40 when three suspects entered the store while two others kept watch at the entrance

BURGERSFORT – Five suspects are still at large after Choppies Supermarket was robbed on July 13. The incident took place at about 18:40 when three suspects entered the store while two others kept watch at the entrance.

“The three men acted like shoppers when they entered the supermarket. After gaining access to the store they pulled out pistols to threaten the employees. The other two stood by the entrance armed with a pistol and shotgun to prevent people from entering or leaving. The three armed suspects inside took money from the tills and ordered the employees to open the cash safe. The incident lasted for a matter of 10 to 15 minutes. They fled the scene in a silver Colt bakkie,” reported Jan Oosthuizen, owner of National Guarding Security Services.

No one was injured during the robbery and the local police, with the help of National Guarding, assisted the traumatised staff members at the scene. The police were still investigating the robbery and at this stage they could not reveal the amount of money that had been stolen.

National Guarding requests the community to share any information that they might have regarding the five suspects. They can phone Jan Oosthuizen on 076-108-4913.
