Locals who attended the festival concluded that it was definitely one of their highlights for this year

STEELPOORT – The popular Winterveld Festival had a slow start on Friday, but by Saturday morning it gained momentum with guests coming from all over to enjoy performances by more than 13 top South African artists including Gerhard Steyn, Mandoza, Bongi, Touch of Glass and Izak Davel. The little ones were entertained by David Dee and the amusement park ensured a variety of adrenaline-filled rides. A number of competitions were held to suit everyone’s taste and even wine lovers got the opportunity to enjoy a dinner-and-wine pairing with entertainment by Christ Forrest, celebrity MasterChef winner. The festival took place at Winterveld Recreational Club.

Stalls provided unique products and scrumptious food to guests while the beer garden gave them a chance to relax and unwind.

The GHH Mining Machines Potjiekos competition on Saturday was judged by the actor, Vaatjie, from the television production, Molly en Wors. Tweefontein Mine won the team-spirit award while the Wildevy Manne obtained second place with Megabus being the 2015 potjiekos-competition winners.

Hell Riders reigned supreme in the soapbox competition and the runner-up spot was taken by Tubatse Hedgehogs. Lannex Mine won the team-spirit award during the derby.

The festival also hosted a glamorous beauty contest on Saturday during which Tiaan Stoltz and Melanie Dercksen were crowned as Mr and Miss Winterveld 2015.

Induna Adventures organised a race to improve cohesion among teams that will positively affect their relations and efficiency in the workplace. The Hell Riders won the team-spirit award while the Lannex team came second. The Minion team proved that it ranked best in compatibility when it walked away with first prize.

Locals who attended the festival concluded that it was definitely one of their highlights for this year.

“This year the festival went all out with its entertainment line-up. I cannot wait to see what they have in store for next year,” said Melissa Jacobs, a local of Burgersfort.
