TONGA – The women in blue’s presence were felt by criminals and lawbreakers this Women’s Month. This was clear during a sting operation in Tonga last Tuesday which witnessed two taverns being closed down, the arrest of four suspects for the possession of dagga, three for possession of illicit cigarettes, and one for selling liquor without a licence. According to the local station commander, Brig Velisiwe Mdaka, this operation was part of their Women’s Month celebration. Mdaka added that women in a male-dominated world wanted to stand out and prove that they could do it without their male counterparts. The operation was led by Mdaka herself. All the suspects have appeared in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on their respective charges. Mdaka warned the community to expect more of these operations even after this month. “Together we can do more in the fight against crime,” Mdaka concluded.
