MALALANE – Police have dismissed claim that a fourth body of the alleged serial rapist and killer was found in the sugar cane outside town last week.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday Spokesman for the Malalane SAPS, Sgt Bheki Nkosi, denied there ever being such a report last week Thursday.
“We never received a call out of that nature. I can therefore confirm that these allegations are un-factual,” Nkosi said. Nkosi explained that they are currently still conducting investigations in the deaths of the previous three burnt bodies which were discovered. The matter attracted national attention when a the third body of a female was found by sugar cane cutters who were busy harvesting cane. It is believed by police that the perpetrator’s main intention is to rape his victims, and murders them as a way of covering his tracks, before disposing of their bodies in sugar cane fields, which are about to be burnt. According to the SAPS provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Mark Magadlela, after the discovery of the first body on July 22, a special task team of detectives was set up to follow-up the matter. Nkosi furthermore added that no arrests have yet been made, and they are requesting the community to come forward if the may have seen anything strange happening in the sugar cane fields. Nkosi concluded by reiterating that young women should be extra careful.
