Body of a man is found next to the R555 road

STEELPOORT – On August 23 the body of a man was found next to the R555, close to the Total Garage when entering town. A garage employee stated that he was walking back from Pick n Pay to the garage when he noticed the body.
“I went to buy food, but when I returned I saw the body of a man next to the road. The man’s shirt was torn and it had stains on it, almost similar to blood stains. I don’t know what happened to him or for how long he was lying there. I can probably say by the way his clothes and corpse looked, that it was a violent death,” he added.

His body was publicly exposed without covering it with a blanket. She was highly upset and disgusted by the scene.
“The identity of the deceased is still unknown, but we had people claiming to be his family on August 31 at Lebowakgomo morgue to identify the body.
The case was transferred to Lydenburg. We are still waiting to be informed about his identity. For now, we know that the victim was an African male who was during the time of his death a homeless beggar, according to officers who handled the investigation.
“Locals said they had seen the man numerous times begging for money and wandering the streets. I can also confirm that he was mentally ill, due to strange encounters locals had with him. Our officers are also busy investigation his cause of death,” concluded Const Victoria Maluleka, police spokesman.
