MARLOTH PARK – Being fined for speeding is not always a bad thing. This was proved when Ms Pat Wilmans, chairman of the Marloth Park Property Owners Association (MPPOA) was pulled over last Thursday. This was also the day that the struggle against the Nkomazi Local Municipality (NLM) was on Corridor Gazette’s front page. As Wilmans requested a reduction of the fine, she met with the chief of law enforcement, Mr Enoch Sifunda.
She had a lengthy discussion with him and the director of community services at NLM, Ms Emmah Mahlalela, of which the outcome was confirmation of a resolution being signed whereby law-enforcement officers (LEOs)will be fully recognised by the NLM. The appointment contracts were signed on Wednesday September 2, from which date they will receive the promised stipend of R3 000 each per month, and will be empowered with the same rights as all law-enforcement officers of the municipality. A dedicated traffic officer is also going to be made available to assist with traffic contraventions. This is good news for MPPOA, which has been trying to get various issues resolved with NLM. All the residents and parties concerned in Marloth Park are anxiously waiting to see if this undertaking and arranged meeting are going to be honoured by the municipality.
