Orphanage celebrates 10 years of blessings

MASHISHING- Uzenzela Wena Orphanage celebrated its 10-year anniversary with a thanksgiving celebration recently. The theme of the event was “Ebenezer Our God, You have carried us this far”.
The orphanage was founded by Past Zodwa Hlatshwayo in 2006 after she realised that many children in the area were going to school on an empty stomach, before the feeding scheme was introduced. The aim of her project is to help decrease poverty in the area and to give a helping hand to the needy. As part of the celebrations, the kids dressed in traditional costumes, sang songs, danced and recited poems.
“The purpose of the celebration is to thank God for everything he has done for us, for making it possible that we could get this far,” she said. According to Hlatshwayo, her dream is to provide a haven for kids who are neglected, the less fortunate or those who cannot be cared for by their families. “When I started this project not everyone understood my vision, some thought it will not succeed although we survived. Look at us now,” she explained.
“I would like to acknowledge everyone who helped us through our journey,” Hlatshwayo added.
