Locals celebrate Heritage day in style

Residents of Mabelane section organised a gathering to celebrate Heritage Day in a manner that reminded them where they came from, the traditional food they ate and their cultural dances

GA-MOTODI – Residents of Mabelane section organised a gathering to celebrate Heritage Day in a manner that reminded them where they came from, the traditional food they ate and their cultural dances. Villagers were requested to bring any craft items to decorate the venue.

The celebrations were attended mostly by women who wanted to showcase their activities and attire of bygone days. These included Zulu, Venda, Pedi, Tswana, Xhosa, Swazi and Ndebele, and they all met in a spirit of unity through diversity.

Some people wore clothes that were not of their own culture because they wanted to show their children the importance of unity. “I am a Pedi but I bought this Swazi outfit to wear today because I love everyone in this country,” said Florence Mabelane, an attendee. The event was rounded off with delicious food.
