Man arrested for impersonating officer

On a separate occasion, he previously approached foreign business people in Musina and demanded money claiming that their permits were invalid.

MBOMBELA – An alleged fraudster who allegedly disguised himself as an officer of the Anti-Corruption Unit has been arrested.

Mr Jonathan Constable (44) was caught by the Hawks in Mbombela last Tuesday. The Cape Town-born culprit was apprehended at a bank just before he could deposit alleged bribe money he had collected from his victims.

Constable allegedly demanded bribes from foreign nationals with a threat of arrest and deportation. According to Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi of the Hawks, he had been previously arrested in Musina, Limpopo in 2011.

It is alleged he deceived a local home affairs office into issuing him a vehicle claiming that he was going to arrest illegal immigrants.
On a separate occasion, he previously approached foreign business people in Musina and demanded money claiming that their permits were invalid.

He was charged for these offences and the cases are ongoing. He was out on bail.
He will remain in custody until a court date is finalised.

He is expected to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court in October.
