Two men were killed and another severely injured in an accident outside Phoka Thaba platinum mine in Maandagshoek on Friday

BURGERSFORT – Two men were killed and another severely injured in an accident outside Phoka Thaba platinum mine in Maandagshoek on Friday, October 2. This follows after a crane exiting the mine collided with two stationary trucks.

According to eyewitnesses at the scene the crane was travelling down the mountain passage from Phoka Thaba platinum mine when the brakes failed. Two trucks were parked at the gate waiting to enter the mine premises when the crane collided with them.

The accident occurred at 06:30 and only by 12:00 the mine rescue team managed to safely remove the severely injured crane driver from the wreckage. The complete story will be published in next week Friday’s edition of the Steelburger/Lydenburg Newspaper.
