Bursary to offer financial relief to parents

The long-term investment in the two schools is aimed at developing a healthy competition within the grades for the annual allocation of bursaries, which in turn should improve the overall academic achievement in the two schools.

Waterval Boven – Trans African Concessions (TRAC) recently handed over four bursaries to grade eight learners of Imemeza High School in town and Sikhulile Secondary School in Machadodorp.

CSI and human-resource manager at TRAC, Ms Adri Fourie, said they wanted to encourage the learners at the beginning of their high school levels to excel through to grade 12.

There is no guarantee that the same pupil will get the bursary each year, they will have to prove that they are willing to dedicate themselves to studying hard. For the next five years the top two learners from grades eight to matric will stand in line to receive future bursaries based on academic performance.

The bursaries will also give financial relief to the parents and the schools because the learners will be able to concentrate on their education, thereby helping to improve the pass rate.

TRAC hoped the bursaries would help the pupils strive for excellence. Addressing the schoolchildren during the handover, CEO of TRAC, Mr Graham Esterhuysen, said they had the gift for learning but the drive should come from them.

He also said TRAC would like to see the beneficiaries of the awards take the opportunity to become better people in their communities.
