Alleged rapist of minor arrested
The girl was taken to hospital where it was confirmed that she had been raped
TONGA – A 32-year-old man from Block A has been arrested and remanded in police custody for repeatedly raping his 12-year-old niece.
This was revealed on Monday when the accused appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court after handing himself over to the police that same day.
According to information which is available to the SAPS, this has been going on since March this year. News of the victim’s rape came to light when she never returned home from school last week and sought refuge at to her aunt’s home.
The sister informed the mother who rushed to her place where the daughter told her why she hadn’t come home. The victim furthermore alleged that her uncle had threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
A rape case was opened at Tonga Police Station and the girl was taken to hospital where it was confirmed that she had been raped. She is currently undergoing counselling and treatment.
The case was postponed to October 20 for bail application. By the time of going to print, the outcome was still unknown. Tonga Police Station commander, Brig Velisiwe Mdaka, applauded the mother of the victim for coming forward to report the case.
“Together we can do more in the fight against crime,” Mdaka said.
