MALALANE – Bakkies remain at the top of the most-wanted vehicles for robbers in the Nkomazi subregion.
This was reaffirmed when a 65-year-old man of Mzinti was assaulted and robbed of his Toyota Hilux double-cab and other belongings in the early hours of Tuesday morning. According to a police report, the victim, who was asleep at the time, was awoken by voices in the house. When he stood up to inspect what he had heard, he was ambushed by four armed men.
The robbers demanded money from the victim, who explained that he did not have any. They then tied him up with his clothing and began assaulting him with a pick handle. The suspects thereafter demanded his cellphones and car keys.
According to police, before fleeing the scene, they placed a mattress over the victim. Apart from the vehicle they used to flee the scene, they also stole a flat-screen television and two cellphones.
Police are warning residents in all parts of Nkomazi to be careful. Furthermore they request that people assist them in bringing the perpetrators to book.
