He was charged in August 2012 after a Hawks investigation.

MBOMBELA – A former clerk of the provincial Department of Finance was sentenced for fraud in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Delta Mochidi (33) was initially charged with fraud totalling R124 466 after filing travel claims for kilometres he had never travelled in official capacity.

These claims were submitted between April 9, 2011 and January 2012.

He was charged in August 2012 after a Hawks investigation and, after a three year trial, only 12 fraudulent claims totalling R66 000 were proven against him.

The court ordered Michidi to pay back the money from his pension fund. He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, which was suspended for five years.
