Penryn trio plays in Ireland

The players said it was an awesome opportunity for them to compete with some of the best players on the pitch.

Three Penryn College rugby players went on the annual Danie Rossouw rugby tour to Ireland during the October school holiday.

Chris Symonds, Hadrick Coertze and Albert Hechter, had been selected for the Danie Rossouw XV touring team earlier.

The team played three fixtures against some traditionally strong rugby schools and clubs, beating Terenure College 19-10 and Young Munster 42-7, but suffering a 0-22 defeat against St Michael’s College.

Coertze, who is the Penryn’s head boy, was named man of the match after their encounter with St Michael’s.

The players said it was an awesome opportunity for them to compete with some of the best players on the pitch. In addition, they liked Ireland and enjoyed the interesting sights in the country.

They also got to see some of the oldest schools in the world and experienced some of their traditions and customs first-hand.

“We believe this experience will greatly benefit our boys and add value to our 2016 rugby season,” said Susanna Oosthuizen, Penryn’s director of marketing, communications and partnerships.
