Senior citizens warned to be wary

Last week a woman, who presented herself as an employee of the association, visited numerous elderly people at BOBS enquiring about their cards.

Superintendent at the Barberton Organisation for the Care of the Aged, also known as BOBS, Delphie Mandleleni urged senior citizens to be vigilant with their South African Social Security Association (Sassa) cards.

Last week a woman, who presented herself as an employee of the association, visited numerous elderly people enquiring about their cards. One of the gentlemen produced his ID and Sassa cards.

When the woman left, he realised that she had taken his card as well as his PIN number which was inside the folder as well. Soon after he reported the incident, it was established that R900 had been withdrawn from his account.

A case has been opened with the SAPS but no one has been arrested yet.
