Matrics celebrate end of exams with a pens-down
Jasper Zwane, spokesman for education, said the department was satisfied with the manner in which the 2015 grade 12 examinations had been conducted.

Four Emjindini girls who have finished writing their matric exams, have followed in the footsteps of thousands before them, and got their friends to sign their school uniforms.
The four girls, Leean Mhlongo (21), Belinda Baloyi (20) of KaMhola High School, Busisiwe Masina (24) and Zanele Thole (21) of Emjindini Secondary School, wrote their final papers last Wednesday.
To celebrate this, they organised their own pens-down party at Rimer’s Creek recreational park. They said they got their friends to sign their names and contact numbers on their shirts to keep these as souvenirs. They said they would also wear their shirts to commemorate June 16 next year. The four pupils were adamant that come next January when the results are released, their names would appear in the newspaper. “The exams were fine. The set timetable gave us space to study and prepare. We started with tough subjects and finished off with easier ones,” said Baloyi, who aspired to study sales marketing at the University of Venda next year.
Her friends agreed and said they were looking forward to studying at tertiary level next year. Mhlongo said she had enrolled for traffic management while Thole planned to study boilermaking at the University of Limpopo. Masina said she would enrol for mining engineering at the University of Johannesburg.
All matriculants within the Barberton Department of Education ended their examinations last Wednesday with English paper III and tourism.
Jasper Zwane, spokesman for education, said the department was satisfied with the manner in which the 2015 grade 12 examinations had been conducted.
“It is encouraging that since the exams started on October 26, there were no serious challenges reported and it is safe to indicate that it has so far been recorded as an incident-free examination process.
This success is attributed to the dedication and commitment of officials, teachers, learners, parents and the support from communities. The department takes this time to express its profound appreciation to all who made this possible for the past six years in succession,” said Zwane.
The second step of the exam process, which is the marking, will start today (December 2 to December 14) at 18 centres with 3 267 appointed markers. The results will be released on January 5, 2016 and can be collected on January 6, 2016. Zwane said parents were requested to accompany their children when collecting their reports at the respective schools in order to lend support.
The department will announce the results at Izimbali Boarding School in Amsterdam, Mkhondo Local Municipality on
January 6, 2016 at 09:00.
