Protestors planning to restart strike
After the negative outcome of last Friday’s court case in Lydenburg Magistrate's Court the Mampuru, Phasha, Ngwaabe and Tukakgomo community members have warned residents that they would start blockading the R555 by 18:00 today
STEELPOORT – After the negative outcome of last Friday’s court case in Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court the Mampuru, Phasha, Ngwaabe and Tukakgomo community members have warned residents that they would start blockading the R555 by 18:00 today.
Mr Cisco Mohloki, one of the community representatives from Longtill told the paper that the meeting that was to be held between the task team, DMR and the mine managers today has also been postponed to Thursday as the task team comrade and councillor was still in police custody and could not represent the communities during the meeting.
“On Friday our community members travelled to Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court to hear the outcome of the case, but there was no bail granted for the community members still in custody. The judge did withdrawn the Mpumalanga case against them as some of the vehicles were set alight about 900 metres from the district border, but they still face the Limpopo district charges. The seven community members still in custody will appear in the Schoonoord Magistrate’s Court tomorrow morning. We will start to blockade the R555 from Monday night until tomorrow morning. We will also support them on Tuesday morning outside the court. If the court outcome is positive we will stop the strike,” said Mr Mohloki.
Mr Willie Mosoma, Sekhukhune District Municipality spokesman has confirmed that the meeting between the task team, DMR and mine managers has been postponed until Thursday.
Const Victoria Maluleka, Burgersfort police spokesman said they were not informed of any strikes occurring today.
Steelburger/Lydenburg News will keep readers informed as we receive updates. We encourage readers to keep a watchful eye when using the R555 during this week.
