Maubeng Chiefs wins Guider’s tourney
Maubeng was the team to watch throughout the tournament. They managed to score 32 goals during the five matches they played.
KGAUTSWANA – Entertainment was not hard to come by over the festive season as the annual Guider’s Promotional Soccer Tournament took place from December 24 to January 1.
The tourney is arguably one of the best to be hosted in the Tubatse area. The tournament was clinched by Maubeng Chiefs after thrashing Marumofase Romans 5-0 in the finals. The winner’s price was a whopping R25 000. Teams that participated in the semi-finals and finals also received awards and cash.
Maubeng was the team to watch throughout the tournament. They managed to score 32 goals during the five matches they played.
Their coach, Joseph Tselane, won the award for coach of the tourney while his players Abel “Sprinkana” Selepe was the top goalscorer of the tournament with 12 goals with Tshepo Selowa as the player of the tournament.
Tselane said his players trained harder to win the tourney, “We realised that a lot was at stake and took every match seriously. As the team, we appreciate the support from our fans and team owner, Philimon “No Mistake” Phasha.”
Among the guests at the tournament was former Black Leopards goal minder, Joseph Masutha, who is currently assistant coach for Leopards.
Masutha praised the teams and highlighted that they could play in the elite leagues if they took the sport seriously.
