Kind-hearted man helps to fix another’s broken bike

Hannie Fourie, a batch plant manager at Phabema Enterprise in Steelpoort helped Alex Nel to revive his passion for cycling by fixing his bike.

LYDENBURG – A good Samaritan has lent a helping hand to a less fortunate man he has never met.

Hannie Fourie, a batch plant manager at Phabema Enterprise in Steelpoort helped Alex Nel to revive his passion for cycling by fixing his bike.

This follows after Steelburger/Lydenburg News wrote an article asking the community to help Nel fix his bike which he could not do due to financial constraints.

Nel is a resident of Lelievlei. Fourie saw the article and immediately contacted Nel.

“When I saw the article in the newspaper I knew that I had to do something. I have been down in my life and nobody in this world is too good or mighty to not be in Nel’s position.

I believe that as long as I can be able to lend a helping hand, I will do so to those in need. People need to remember that whether you rich or poor we will all leave this world in the same way. Having more does not make anyone better than another,” he said.

When Nel first visited the newspaper a couple of weeks ago he was heartbroken. He said cycling is his life and without his bicycle, that had taken him to places as far as the Northern Cape, he was lost.

That all changed last Wednesday.”I am so happy to see my bike fixed now I can get back on the road and visit my friends and family.

I would like to thank Steelburger/Lydenburg News for publishing my story and a special thank you to Mr Fourie for paying for my bike to be fixed by Longtom Cycle. They did a great job,” Nel said.

When he visited Longtom Cycle they realised that the bike had many other things that needed to be fixed too. The store worked out a good deal for Fourie and everything was fixed. He said he would like to meet Nel one day.

“It would be great to meet him for lunch or just tea somewhere.”
