Take the route less travelled
This was the first race of its kind at this venue, but considering the number of runners who participated, it definitely was not the last.
The LowMed Trail Run did not only push avid runners to the limit at Stellenrust Estate on Saturday, but provided a beautiful route with spectacular views of the area.
This was the first race of its kind at this venue, but considering the number of runners who participated, it definitely was not the last.
Through macadamia and orange orchards, surrounded by crisp, fresh air, runners were greeted by zebra, blesbok and even wildebeest. The six-, 12- and 18-kilometre routes consisted of both jeep and single track, with terrain ranging from rocky or sandy, to thick grass paths which made the race all the more challenging. Two dams and hills were included in the run which contributed to the beautiful scenery.
In the six-kilometre fun run, Brian Pieterson was first in the junior male division, while Bradley Ben won the senior male category. Cara Pretorius (junior) and Jeanetta Burger (senior) came first in their categories in 50 and 40 minutes.
Peter Schoeman was the only junior male to complete the 12 kilometres, and did this in an impressive 1:02. Ryan Innes took the spoils in the senior male 12-kilometre category with a time of 1:00,16. Dominique Peel finished her race at an equally impressive 1:01,34.
Where others struggled, Sven Musica came out on top in the senior 18-kilometre run with a time of 1:23,08. Elsa de Beer finished the female category in 1:31,40. Visit
