Stolen truck recovered at border

A truck that had been stolen in a hijacking in Gauteng was recovered during a routine search at the Lebombo Border Post on Saturday night.

LEBOMBO – Komatipoort Police Station spokesman Const Natacia Mbuyane said the white Toyota Hino truck was heading toward Mozambique when it was stopped by police.

“When we did the verification procedure, we discovered that it was a hijacked vehicle and was reported in Vosloorus in Gauteng,” Mbuyane said.

She added that the truck was fitted with false Mpumalanga registration number plates, and was carrying unidentified goods.

The 26-year-old Zimbabwean national, who was driving the truck, was arrested and appeared in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He was expected to appear in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court for his bail application on Tuesday.
