Police investigate hit-and-run case

"We found an aerial of an unknown vehicle at the scene with shards of windscreen and we took them for further investigation," Phokane said.

OHRIGSTAD – The local police are investigating a hit-and-run case after the body of a man was discovered alongside the R36 last Sunday.

According to the spokesman of Ohrigstad SAPS, it was first discovered by a passer-by who immediately alerted the police.

“At this stage we do not have any information of what happened, but we suspect that the victim must have been knocked by a vehicle during the afternoon of Sunday after a drinking spree with his friends because of the nature of his injuries.

“We found an aerial of an unknown vehicle at the scene with shards of windscreen and we took them for further investigation,” Phokane said.

The police appealed to anyone who might have information to come forward or contact them on 013-238-0205.

Phokane also pleaded with local communities to expose criminal activities in the area.

“Please report any suspicious activities or persons to your nearest police station or anonymously to the Crimestop line at 0860-010-111.”
