Man caught trying to smuggle heroin still in custody

A man attempting to smuggle heroin worth millions of Rands through the Lembombo Border Post is in police custody while his court case is ongoing.

KOMATIPOORT – The man caught while trying to smuggle 58 packets of heroin into South Africa through the Lebombo Border Post on April 20, is currently in Nelspruit Prison pending his court appearances.

The 50-year-old was arrested on drug-smuggling charges, after police discovered the R53 million’s stash of heroin during a routine stop-and-search at the border. He was denied bail during his first court appearance.

He was in court again last Tuesday and his next appearance in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court is set for today.
