
TONGA – A 41-year-old man appeared in court on Monday after he hacked a six-year-old with a butcher knife on Saturday.
The victim was allegedly collecting firewood in front of the suspect’s home with his friends when the man attacked the children.
The boy sustained head injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
The suspect was arrested for attempted murder.
On Saturday night, five men attacked and robbed a man in Block A.
The victim was reportedly assaulted while in the street, and kicked, punched and hit with sticks until he was unable to defend himself.
The suspects stole the victim’s wallet, an undisclosed amount of cash, driver’s license and an appointment card before fleeing the scene.
Police are still searching for the suspects.
On Sunday a 48-year-old woman was raped by two men at Nkomazi River. According to the woman, she went to fetch water when she was attacked, raped and robbed. The suspects left the scene on foot.
On the same day a 31-year-old woman was raped during a house robbery. The woman was asleep in her bedroom when an armed suspect entering the room woke her up. Two others also entered the house and started searching for valuables, while one of the suspects raped the woman.
The suspects fled with a laptop, tablet, cellphone and cash.
A 28-year-old woman was also robbed in her house in Block B on Sunday. She woke to find a man armed with a knife next to her bed.
When she tried to scream, he told her to keep quiet, stole her cellphone and fled.
