
Following an alleged mob killing in KaMhlushwa on Friday, a Nkomazi ward candidate for the DA was arrested for murder.
Police suspect Ms Sanky Mndawe was the mastermind behind the mob killing.
The victim is thought to be Mr Justice Khoza (34), whose body was found early on Friday morning. Reports stated that the victim was mentally ill.
According to provincial police spokesman, Brig Leonard Hlathi, police acted on a tip-off from the community later the day and nine people were arrested. Another two were arrested on Saturday.
The eleven accused appeared in the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on Monday on murder charges.
Mndawe, Messrs Nunu Hlatswayo (50) Bonisiwe Shongwe (25) and Zelisina Khoza (41), were released on free bail.
Messrs Charlie Mbuhgela (43), Phesane Vuma (65), Albert Manyike (34), Frans Mahlalela (42), Anosho Mabuza (24) and Alex Mduduzi (24) were granted bail of R1 000 each.
They are due back in court on September 2.
Other accused to appear in court on the same day, are EFF provincial leader Collen Sedibe and nine others, who were arrested on Thursday for public violence at Umbhaba Estate. Read the story here.
