Man drowns during fishing outing

A fishing expedition ended in tragedy for three friends when one drowned on Friday morning.

KOMATIPOORT –  Const Natacia Mbuyane of Komatipoort SAPS reported that three men were fishing under the bridge next to Hi-Q early on Saturday morning and sitting on large tyre inner-tubes.

The men had decided to make an early start and hoped they would get a good haul to take back home, when two of the men realised the third was no longer on the tube.

They frantically started searching for him and finally found him floating next to a stand of reeds. They used a rope to pull him to the shore and realised he was dead.

The men reported the incident at the Komatipoort police station at 07:00 and an inquest docket was opened.

The deceased was identified as George Kolama (47), a Mozambican national, who was living in Orlando at the time of his death.
