Tonga – Local police are searching for five suspects who have been involved in two separate incidents of house robberies.
On Tuesday at 01:00, a 45-year-old woman from Mzinti was woken up by her son who was screaming for help.
Before she could react, three armed men wearing balaclavas entered her room. The men were holding her son, and threatened her to keep quiet.
The robbers fled the scene with cash, three cellphones and a plasma-screen television.
A similar incident occurred around the same time, also in Mzinti, when a 38-year-old man woke up after hearing a noise coming from his living room.
When he went to check what was happening, he was met by two armed suspects wearing balaclavas.
The suspects threatened him with their firearms, and ordered him to lie down. They demanded money and a firearm, which the victim did not have. One of the suspects fired a shot at the floor to intimidate the victim.
The men took the victim’s car keys and cellphone, and drove off in his Toyota Run X. The vehicle was later recovered in Hectorspruit.
Cases of house robbery have been opened at the Tonga Police Station and are currently being investigated.
Anyone with information that could lead to the arrests of the suspects are urged to contact the investigating officer on 082-464-6302.
