Tiny bookworms enjoy fun day

Nearly 300 children attended the annual Boekie Boekwurm Kermis held two weeks ago in Impala Street.

They enjoyed face painting, a treasure hunt, a tea garden, puppet shows, horse riding, wagon trips and much more. Kids from eight schools attended.

Founder of the initiative, Eulalia Jordaan, said it started out as a small fair 20 years ago and grew over the years.

“The aim is for the children to spend a lovely day with us in nature. Many parents come and help and it’s lots of fun for everyone. It’s a way to give back to the community as well,” Jordaan said.

There is a minimal entrance fee for each child to cover the costs. When they leave, they take home a bag of goodies.
