Land donation brings joy to the Matsebula family

Although the land was donated six years ago, the construction of the village was only completed in March.

Ten more RDP housing units have been approved for construction by the Department of Human Settlements at the Castle Kop farm near town.

The additional housing units will bring the total number of houses built on the farm to 41. This project is one of a kind in City of Mbombela Local Municipality where a farmer has donated land to farm dwellers for residential purposes.

According to the department, the owner, Barry Jacobs, donated the piece of land to the Matsebula family, who have been residents of the farm for more than 60 years, to enable government to do proper planning and roll-out services to the small community.

Although the land was donated six years ago, the construction of the village was only completed in March. Umjindi Municipality planned for 50 sites and underground infrastructure to be constructed.

“The department had other pieces of land donated by farmers in the province, but this is the only project in City of Mbombela,” said spokesman for human settlements, Freddy Ngobe.
