KAMHLUSHWA – A man died and another was seriously injured after they were attacked by a mob on September 6.
According to Tonga SAPS spokesperson, Capt Mzwandile Nyambi, a group of community members suspected that the two men were involved in criminal activities, cornered them and assaulted them at about 02:00 on September 6.
Police were notified that a mob-justice incident was taking place and on arrival, found two men badly injured. They were rushed to Tonga Hospital by ambulance, but one was pronounced dead on arrival.
The community is urged not to take the law into their own hands as this leads to more criminal acts. Several incidents of mob justice in the Tonga area over the past few months have resulted in deaths and many community members have been arrested for killing or attempting to kill people suspected of crimes.
Any suspicious or unlawful activity should be reported to the police immediately, so that the incident can be followed up in a lawful manner.
