Bok van Blerk counters the cold and rain with lively music

The light drizzle and cold weather did not keep Lowvelders away from the grand opening of Oreganum Restaurant, or Bok van Blerk performing live, at the Bahati Centre this past Saturday.

WHITE RIVER – There were welcome drinks for the adults and jumping castles for the kids. There were tables upstairs and downstairs overlooking the stage which was set in the garden, and an outside kitchen where guests could buy something to nibble on.

But it was the main act at 17:00 which drew the crowds, and Van Blerk did not disappoint.

He sang many of his well-known favourites like “De La Rey” and “Land van Melk en Heuning” and had grown men in tears with his song about the border war, “Die Kaplyn”.

He also performed a new song called “De La Rey Tot Nou” which has not yet been released.

He had all sorts of humorous advice for his audience and, at one point, even told them to put away their cellphones, to stop taking videos and just enjoy the music.

He also mentioned that it was the coldest weather he had ever experienced in the Lowveld.

At one point, more tables were moved under cover because of the rain, but this did not stop couples from dancing and children from running around.
Much to the crowd’s delight, Van Blerk and his band played on through the rain.
