Seven puppies dumped in field
Despite the fact that dogs and puppies are being dumped in and around town, several posts still surface on many Facebook pages for “pups looking for a good home”.

LYDENBURUG – There has been an increase in the blatant dumping of dogs and puppies in and around town. On Saturday just after 15:30, Ms Thalita van Greunen phoned the newspaper after she and Mr Deon Broekman of Rapid Response found seven puppies dumped in the field near their house.
Van Greunen told the newspaper that her mother asked her whether her dogs got out of the yard as she heard noises in the field across from their house in Joubert street. “I told my mother that my dogs were safely in the backyard. When I went to investigate, I found four pups in the field. After we again went to check, we discovered another three puppies. This is lousy to say the least.”
Van Greunen immediately phoned Ms Cathy Schutte of Home4Paws. Schutte said that in this month alone, the shelter took in 38 abandoned puppies and dogs. “Most of them are dumped or left behind in the yards when the owners move. I really don’t know what to do anymore. It is not even Christmas yet.”

Van Greunen said that it is unclear how long the pups had been in the field. “They were extremely thirsty. They didn’t even eat the dog pellets we gave them, but drank two bowls of water.”
