Much-loved teenager killed in accident

Two adults and another child were also critically injured. Muhammed was declared dead on the scene.

BURGERSFORT – A 13-year-old boy tragically died and three passengers were critically injured in an accident on the R37 when a truck tried to overtake another one on a steep incline. The victims were on their way to Badplaas.

Careless motorists also put their lives in danger at the accident scene when they stopped to take photos. Muhammed Anver Gani (13) was travelling with family friends in a Toyota Fortuner. Eyewitnesses told the newspaper that, in his effort to avoid a head-on collision with the oncoming truck, the driver of the Fortuner swerved onto the gravel and lost control.

Two adults and another child were also critically injured. Muhammed was declared dead on the scene. He was a pupil at Highlands College. The school held a memorial service on Monday where his mother sought to comfort his classmates. His uncle, Mr Mohammed Arbee Gora, explained to the children that life was short, and that you should do good things wherever you go.

“You must be like Muhammed. In his short life he only showed compassion and love. Wherever he went he cared for people and went out of his way to help others.” The principal of Highlands College, Ms Fatima Mahomed said he was a loving child and friend. The injured driver and passengers are still being treated in hospital.
